Saipem confirms its strategic decision to be among the energy transition leaders and enablers.

It is technology that will make transition capable of combining growth, economic well-being, inclusion and environmental sustainability possible.

And Saipem has always worked with innovative technologies to create complex systems and infrastructures.

Our strategy to prevent climate change and protect the environment finds practical application in the Net Zero Programme and is based on two pillars:

  • improving the efficiency of our assets, operations and supply chain to reduce Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions

What we mean by

Emissions from sources that are under the operational control of Saipem;

for example, emissions from combustion in owned or controlled boilers, generators, vehicles, etc.

Indirect emissions from the generation of purchased or acquired energy (electricity or heat) consumed by Saipem.

Scope 2 emissions physically occur at the facility where electricity or heat is generated.

All indirect emissions (not included in scope 2) that occur in the value chain of Saipem,

for example emissions to produce, ship and dispose of every good used by the company; emissions from the commuting and business travels of employees.

  • supporting customers in their decarbonisation process, acting as a facilitator of low climate and environmental impact strategies and technologies, while simultaneously playing a key role in the energy transition

Issues such as protecting biodiversity and the fight against deforestation, as well as waste reduction and the circular economy in the management of operations and yards, are fundamental when trying to reduce the emissions that represent Saipem's carbon footprint.

Furthermore, a good level of biological diversity increases resilience and the ability to adapt and respond to the physical risks associated with climate change.

The pillars find concrete expression in defined and structured objectives

The achievement of Net Zero by 2050 for Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions, as a long-term objective, with specific and timely efficiency initiatives to immediately start reducing the carbon footprint of assets and operations, by also supporting customers in their sustainability process, based on

  1. Achieving Carbon Neutrality in Scope 2 emissions by 2025

  2. 50% reduction of Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 2035

Supply chain sustainability by:

  1. enhancing the monitoring of its carbon footprint and

  2. researching options for low carbon technologies and materials in the market, as the first steps toward defining short term and specific quantitative targets for Scope 3 and future reductions.
