Press note: Saipem presenting new subsea projects at DOT 2015
San Donato Milanese (Milan), October 15, 2015 – Saipem’s stand at the Deep Offshore Technology International Conference & Exhibition, in Houston, Texas, is showcasing a number of the promising subsea projects the company currently has under development.
One of the world’s leading oil and gas services contractors, Saipem has a range of innovative technologies aimed at the subsea sector “in the pipeline”, including in the areas of seawater treatment, oil and gas processing, electrical heating for flowlines and risers, and offshore installation, and is taking advantage of the Houston fair to highlight their numerous benefits. In many cases, these technologies are being developed together with potential clients and major industrial and academic partners.
The company has chosen to focus principally on three innovations at the event:
Fusion Bonded Joint (FBJ), a new technology for coating pipes with plastic materials, developed and successfully certified for ‘J-Lay’ pipelaying
SPRINGS®, a subsea seawater desulfation unit developed in partnership with Total and Veolia
the Modular Multipipe, a new separation system designed to offer robust gravity separation in deepwater, while satisfying all the challenging requirements of installation and maintenance.
Additionally, the fair’s conference programme has seen Saipem chair and contribute to a session on Subsea Technology Advancements, as well as delivering presentations on Pipeline Construction & Installation and Riser Management & Subsea Processing - currently some of the most interesting and challenging areas of development.
The deep offshore, where numerous oil and gas fields have been found in recent years, looks set to remain a promising market in the medium and long-term, with a number of fields beginning to be developed in West Africa, Brazil, and the Gulf of Mexico. A key factor that will determine the success of these initiatives is industry capacity to properly react and adapt its practices to work more efficiently.
With Saipem confident that the deep offshore market will develop strongly in the near future, requiring a large variety of processing options to ensure economically viable development of its huge oil & gas reserves, the company is keen to seize what it sees as a major opportunity to anticipate the future technical challenges the market will pose to operators. Accordingly, it is marshalling a significant effort in terms of deepwater technology development, with the aim of broadening its portfolio of technical solutions and readying itself to offer comprehensive and competitive solutions for cost-effective field developments in water depths of 3000m and beyond.
For 34 years, Deep Offshore Technology (DOT) International has been showcasing pioneering technology that has been shaping the future of the deep and ultra-deepwater industry. DOT showcases the most innovative technologies in the deepwater oil and gas industry, and provides a forum to discuss the specific challenges associated with hostile and ultra-deepwater environments. Saipem is present at the exhibition at stand no. 409.
Saipem operates in the Engineering & Construction and Drilling businesses, with a strong bias towards oil & gas-related activities in remote areas and deep-waters. Saipem is a leader in the provision of engineering, procurement, project management and construction services with distinctive capabilities in the design and execution of large-scale offshore and onshore projects, and technological competences such as gas monetization and heavy oil exploitation.
