The project

Located 260 km offshore Luanda (Angola) the development of Kaombo Field began in 2014 with the EPCI contract award from Total Angola for the engineering, procurement, construction, installation, commissioning, and operation and maintenance of two turret- moored FPSO units. The project consists of the conversion of two VLCC oil tankers into production units.

The two converted FPSOs each have a handling capacity of approximately 125,000 barrels of oil per day, a water injection capacity of 200,000 barrels per day, a gas compression capacity of 100 million SCF per day, and a storage capacity of 1.7 million barrels of oil. The two FPSOs are turret-moored, and the tankers are loaded via a floating flexible hose. On each FPSO are installed 14 modules with a total weight of 17,000 t. The modules have been built in Karimun Yard while the turret— provided by Bluewater— has a total weight of approx. 10,000 t.
