Biography

Adriano Mongini graduated in Mining Engineering from the University of Turin and began his career at Eni in 1988 as a Reservoir Engineer. In the early years, Mongini contributed to the development of oil fields in Libya and West Africa, before advancing to the role of Senior Reservoir Engineer in Congo.

In 1997, he transitioned into production management, holding positions across several Italian subsidiaries. This period culminated in his appointment as Production District Manager in Ravenna in 2001. The following year, he relocated to Houston, taking on the role of Senior Vice President of Operations, where he oversaw production, drilling, reservoir, and development projects in the Gulf of Mexico and Alaska.

By early 2006, he was appointed Managing Director in Iran, leading Eni’s activities in the country for nearly three years. In early 2009, he became Managing Director of Ieoc, assuming responsibility for all Eni’s operations in Egypt.

In December 2012, he was named Senior Vice President, and in 2014, Executive Vice President, overseeing business and activities in the North Africa and Middle East Region. In this period, he also served as Deputy COO Upstream.

In 2017, he returned to Eni’s headquarters to lead the Upstream Procurement, a position he held for two years before resuming regional management responsibilities in 2019. He first led the East Africa region, followed by the responsibility of the Europe and Americas region.

In August 2022, Mongini was appointed as first CEO of Azule Energy, an independent joint venture between bp and Eni, with assets in Angola and Namibia, a role he held until December 2025.

From 1 January 2026, he is the Chief Operating Officer Drilling and Sonsub in Saipem S.p.A.
