Our approach
We at Saipem undertake to protect the safety and physical and mental well-being of our people. We focus on the “zero serious or fatal accidents” goal, integrating the principles of Human Performance, promoting technological innovation and ensuring the integrity of our assets. Our management systems help us to identify the risks and adopt effective prevention measures, but we are aware that these tools alone are not enough. We believe that true improvement in health and safety comes from an in-depth cultural change. This is why, over twenty years ago, we launched the Leadership in Health and Safety (LiHS) programme, which today represents our philosophy, the heart of the Saipem Health and Safety Vision.

Designed and signed by the Top Management, the Health and Safety Vision reflects Saipem’s values and commitment to guaranteeing the health, safety and well-being of all workers. The Health & Safety Vision is based on five key pillars, closely linked to Saipem's business and activities.

Safety Strategic Plan
The 2024-2026 Safety Strategic Plan marked a paradigm shift: safety is the presence of effective safeguards, not the absence of incidents. The new strategy focuses on the analysis of High Consequence Events, with the ultimate goal of eliminating fatalities and life-altering injuries (LAIs) across our operations.
Programma LiHS
Leadership in Health & Safety (LiHS) è un programma di cambiamento culturale sviluppato e implementato in Saipem a partire dal 2007 per rafforzare la safety leadership e trasformare la cultura di sicurezza in modo profondo e duraturo. Negli anni il programma è stato adottato con successo da oltre 100 organizzazioni in diversi contesti industriali ed è oggi riconosciuto come un programma di eccellenza a livello internazionale.
Human Performance (HP)
Rules and procedures alone are not enough: most accidents are linked to unsafe behaviours, directly connected to Human Performance. Understanding why people act in a certain way is essential for achieving the goal of eliminating serious or fatal accidents.
Saipem has developed a new programme with a view to adopting the five key HP principles.
LIHS PROGRAMME
The Leadership in Health & Safety (LiHS) programme focuses on a cultural change, that has been developed and implemented by Saipem since 2007 to strengthen its safety leadership and ensure a profound and lasting change in the safety culture.
Over the years, the programme has been successfully adopted by over 100 organisations in different industrial contexts and today is internationally acknowledged as a programme of excellence.
ISO 45001 and 14001 certification
Worker safety is constantly monitored and guaranteed through an integrated health, safety and environment management system, certified under ISO 45001 and 14001 standards. This system ensures that health and safety risks are systematically identified and evaluated, with appropriate mitigation actions implemented to either eliminate or manage these risks effectively.
One Saipem, One Health: we care for the health of our people
Ensuring the state of complete physical, mental and social well-being of our people is not only a strategic objective but also one of the foundations of our identity, In daily management, this translates into multiple actions that permeate every aspect of corporate life. In fact, our health model covers various aspects of health, including occupational health, travel medicine, health care, medical emergency management, disease prevention, health promotion, epidemiological surveillance, and community health.
Our goal is to protect our people’s health in relation to the work environment and task performed and create a space in which health can flourish by developing initiatives that include supporting healthy lifestyle choices, early diagnosis, optimizing work environments, and supporting mental well-being and disabilities.
In that perspective, our company features an Occupational Health unit dedicated to the protection of workers' health in relation to the work environment and the task performed, a Travel Medicine function designed to guarantee the health and safety of our employees travelling or working abroad and a Global Health service that strives to redefine preventive medicine by viewing 'good health' not merely as the absence of disease, but as a valuable asset for everyday living. Saipem has established Smart Clinics, a proximity service that facilitates access to health surveillance, travel medicine services and health prevention offerings in both the work and personal spheres.
In addition, we provide a team of psychologists to help address stress and discomfort, promoting awareness and development of resources for managing critical issues, and a Corporate Social Assistance Service born from the company's desire to invest in the well-being of each individual worker, recognizing that behind every professional there is an individual with his/her own uniqueness, challenges and personal needs. .
Sì Viaggiare: l’app di Saipem per viaggiare in sicurezza
Saipem’s application Si Viaggiare is the tool designed by the company Travel Medicine team to support travellers on a global scale. The APP supplies indications and measures essential for preparing a trip abroad and assesses the specificities of the itinerary and destination to prevent and mitigate risks specific to the health of the travelling worker. It facilitates planning before preventive health measures (vaccinations, chemoprophylaxis, certificates etc.) and allows travelers to log their frequency and expiry dates.
It is free and available on the main app stores for Android and IOS.
