San Donato Milanese, 24 January 2014 - Saipem, through the Saipem Croatia Branch, and the University of Rijeka today signed a cooperation agreement for the development of scientific research and university education initiatives in the field of energy technology.

The agreement was signed by the Director of the Saipem Croatia Branch, Bruno Marino, and by the Dean of the University of Rijeka, Pero Lučin, in the presence of the Consul General of the Italian Republic in Fiume, Renato Cianfarani.

The agreement will facilitate scientific research projects in the field of energy technology, in addition to classes and seminars on mechanical engineering and naval architecture.
The cooperation between Saipem Croatia and the University of Rijeka will make it possible to pass on the know-how and experience of Saipem, one of the leading general contractors in the world in the execution of large-scale projects, especially in the Oil & Gas sector, to students through their Off-Shore Transport and Installation Engineering Center. This initiative will lead to the hiring of new graduates in the Branch, especially from the University’s Faculty of Engineering.

Saipem is a leader in the provision of engineering, procurement, project management and construction services with distinctive capabilities in the design and execution of large-scale offshore and onshore projects, and technological competences such as gas monetization and heavy oil exploitation.

The University of Rijeka was founded in 1973 as a logical expansion of higher education institutions in western Croatia whose roots date back to the 17th century when the Rijeka Jesuit gymnasium was established and enjoyed equal status with the academies in the largest cities of the Austrian Empire. The University is presently comprised of ten Faculties as well as three Teachers Schools of Professional Higher Education. Its vision targets the inclusion of the University of Rijeka within the top 500 European Universities.
