The project

Neptun Deep is the largest offshore natural gas project currently under development in the European Union. It represents a strategic infrastructure for the energy security of Romania and Europe, contributing to the development of Black Sea resources and the diversification of energy supply sources.

On behalf of OMV Petrom (operator) and Romgaz, Saipem is carrying out the final stages of the Engineering, Procurement, Construction, Installation and Commissioning (EPCIC) contract for the main offshore infrastructure required to develop the Domino and Pelican South fields in the Romanian sector of the Black Sea. This includes a gas processing platform, successfully installed in approximately 100 metres of water depth, three subsea production systems, a 160-km-long 30-inch offshore pipeline, and the associated infrastructure linking the offshore facilities to the Romanian coast.

The project involves some of the flagship assets of Saipem’s fleet, including Saipem 7000, Castorone, and JSD6000.

The Neptun Alpha platform, one of the most complex facilities within the overall development, was built by leveraging the integrated capabilities of Saipem’s industrial network: the jacket was fabricated at Saipem’s Arbatax yard in Italy, while the topside was constructed at the Karimun yard in Indonesia.
