The project

The Neart Na Gaoithe, or NnG, offshore wind farm is located in the outer Firth of Forth, 15.5 km off the Fife Coast and 29 km from the east Lothian coastline of Scotland. Boasting 450 MW, it covers an area of 105 km2 in a water depth of 40-60 meters.

This wind farm includes fifty-four 8 MW wind turbine generators (WTGs), and two offshore transformer platforms (OTPs.) Saipem performed the design, fabrication and installation of the jacket foundations for both the 54 WTGs and the 2 OTPs, taking yet another step towards sustainable energy worldwide. The extremely challenging ground conditions necessitated a drilled pile solution and required 5.4km of total drilling of 3m diameter holes for the piles to then be inserted and grouted into final position.
