Scope 2 carbon neutrality reached, and workplace safety performance further strengthened

Saipem has published its 2025 Sustainability Overview, a voluntary document outlining the results achieved in integrating sustainability into the Group’s business model, complementing the Consolidated Sustainability Report (mandatory under the European CSRD Directive and the Italian Legislative Decree no. 125/2024). Among the key achievements of the year were carbon neutrality for Scope 2 emissions and positive workplace safety performance, confirming the central role of the energy transition and people in the company’s strategy.

Carbon neutrality for Scope 2 emissions was reached through energy saving and efficiency initiatives, the use of renewable energy at Saipem’s sites sourced from the grid or self-generated, and the offsetting of residual emissions. During the year, Saipem also avoided the emission of 82,600 tonnes of CO₂ equivalent (with reference to Scope 1 and 2), thanks to the implementation of energy management initiatives across assets and construction sites. These results are consistent with the Group’s commitment to achieving its Net Zero target by 2050, including increased engagement with its most relevant suppliers to also reduce Scope 3 emissions.

The safety of people remains an absolute priority for Saipem. The results achieved in 2025, and in particular the absence of fatal accidents, confirm a further improvement in performance in this area. The company has consolidated a new safety paradigm based on the concept of “Fail Safe”, aimed at preventing and responding to human error by ensuring that effective protection safeguards are always in place. This approach is supported by training programmes, organisational culture and the adoption of advanced technologies, including digital and artificial intelligence solutions, such as: LiSa Hyper Harness, the smart life-saving harness designed to enhance the safety of workers at height, and Smart Cameras, an intelligent video monitoring system for operational activities and accident prevention.

People are at the heart of the Group’s sustainable growth path. With over 30,000 employees of around 130 nationalities, in 2025 Saipem delivered more than one million hours of training and promoted skills development, welfare and inclusion initiatives, as well as increased awareness of human and labour rights, including across the value chain.

Strong commitment to local communities was also confirmed: Saipem invested approximately 2 million euros in initiatives for local host communities, delivering more than 70 projects across 20 countries in areas such as vocational education, health, socio-economic development and environmental protection, with the aim of generating shared and long-lasting value for communities. These include a women empowerment programme in Indonesia, focused on training and promoting female entrepreneurship within local communities; urban regeneration initiatives in Milan, such as the redevelopment of the Rogoredo railway underpass through a participatory public art project; waste removal activities and environmental protection initiatives in nine countries worldwide; and a cardiac screening programme for local communities in Mozambique.

With an order backlog exceeding 30 billion euros in 2025, of which 14% related to low- and zero-carbon projects, the Group further confirms its industrial strength and its ability to address the challenges of the energy transition. Saipem’s sustainability performance has also been recognised at international level by the most reputable ESG rating agencies, confirming Saipem’s position among the sector leaders, as evidenced by its inclusion for the ninth consecutive year in the Dow Jones Best‑in‑Class Index World & Europe.

The objectives achieved by Saipem and presented in the Sustainability Overview highlight how sustainability is a strategic lever in its business model and a key element in the long-term development of an increasingly secure, inclusive and sustainable energy industry.
