Bluenzyme™, Saipem's technological solution for carbon capture, has been selected by Ren-Gas, Finland's leading developer of green hydrogen and e-methane projects, for its e-methane plant in Tampere, Finland.

This is the first industrial-scale post-combustion carbon capture plant to be introduced in Finland.

Saipem will provide full support from design to final performance testing of the carbon capture unit.

Bluenzyme™ is Saipem's innovative plug-and-play enzyme-based CO2 capture solution for hard-to-abate industries. The technology behind Bluenzyme™, which was recognised as an ‘Energy Transition Changemaker’ at COP28, is already in use in Saint-Félicien, Canada.

The Ren-Gas plant in Tampere is intended to produce approximately 200 GWh of renewable fuel for both road and maritime heavy transport, as well as 180 GWh of carbon-neutral district heating for the Tampere district heating system. The e-methane production process will utilise the approximately 40,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide captured annually from the flue gas of the Tarastenjärv waste incineration plant.
