The project
The Dogger Bank Offshore Development Zone, located between 125 and 290km off the east coast of Yorkshire, extends for an area nearly as large as Greater London, at a water depths ranging from 18m to 63m. It lies within a large territory known as Doggerland, characterized by shallow waters, which during the last ice age connected Great Britain to the European continent, and takes its name from dogger, a type of boat used in the area by Dutch fishermen in the Middle Ages.
The 3.6 GW project is being developed by SSE Renewables, Equinor and Vårgrønn in three phases: Dogger Bank A (DBA-1.2GW) Dogger Bank B (DBB-1.2GW) and Dogger Bank C (DBC-1.2GW). The overall development comprises of 227 wind turbine generators (WTGs) and three offshore substation platforms (OSPs) of the new HVDC type. Saipem was contracted to transport and install the DBA and DBB OSPs, as well as to fabricate, under subcontract from the EPC Contractor, the DBA and DBB OSP’s jackets, and completed its scope of work in April 2024.
