The project
The Trans Adriatic Pipeline operates 878 km of pipeline, in-line with world- class performance standards of preparedness and accountability. The Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP) is a pipeline in the Southern Gas Corridor that brings gas from new sources in the Caspian region to western and southeastern Europe. The pipeline connects to existing gas networks, starting in Greece, crossing Albania and the Adriatic Sea, and coming ashore in southern Italy, allowing gas to flow directly from the Caspian Basin into European markets. Saipem was awarded the offshore pipeline portion, consisting of an approximately 105 km long offshore pipeline, with landfalls in both Albania and Italy. The project also includes a Fibre Optic Cable (FOC) installed in parallel with the pipeline to enable communication between the different TAP facilities.
An extraordinary project
The TAP Project has been a real testing ground for Saipem’s sustainability performance. Throughout operations, Saipem has always been focused on and committed to quality, health, safety and the environment. Extensive sustainability data collected in collaboration with TAP management during pipeline construction helped the overall general understanding of environmental and social sensitivities. By taking extra care to safeguard these delicate challenges, Saipem was able to carefully mitigate and manage potential risks, including any unrest from local communities at the Italian landfall. Saipem successfully and effectively managed any potential environmental, social, and cultural heritage (ESCH) risks, that could arise during project implementation.
