Saipem presents its 2024 Sustainability Report, approved by the Board of Directors, marking its nineteenth edition. The document, voluntarily prepared by Saipem in addition to the mandatory European sustainability disclosures, is titled "We Deliver" this year. It entails Saipem's concrete commitment to a fairer, safer, inclusive, and low-emission future, placing people and the environment at its core.
Structured into four chapters, the report aligns with the four-year Sustainability Plan and describes initiatives undertaken during the year, highlighting achievements in the three fundamental pillars of the Plan: environment and climate change, people centrality, and value creation.
In 2024, the energy management initiatives implemented by Saipem allowed to avoid the emission of approximately 70,000 tons of CO2 into the atmosphere, contributing to reduce emissions (scope 1 and 2 market-based). In fact, compared to the previous year, emissions were reduced by 6%, on a like-for-like basis. The company has also offset 100,000 tons of CO2 equivalent through projects with positive impacts on biodiversity protection, including initiatives against deforestation and the socioeconomic development of local communities.
Workplace safety, health, skill development, human rights, labor rights, diversity, and overall employee wellbeing remain priorities for Saipem. In 2024, approximately 1.7 million hours of training were provided on health, safety, and environmental topics. The Total Recordable Incident Frequency Rate (TRIFR) stood at 0.34. Saipem is also constantly committed to promoting an inclusive work environment, with 25% of women employed in managerial positions among the total hires.
Saipem aims to create shared value in the territories where it operates and manage its supply chain responsibly. Seventy percent of employees are hired locally, and nearly 70% of goods and services are sourced from local suppliers. Sixty-five sustainability initiatives were implemented to support local host communities across 17 countries, including environmental protection projects—such as plastic collection and proper disposal—and social interventions, like completing the construction of a safe house in Senegal for vulnerable individuals, including abandoned minors and women victims of domestic violence, and a nurse training program in Angola aimed at improving healthcare for children and pregnant women.
Saipem continues to be among the most sustainable companies in the sector, maintaining leadership in ESG indices and receiving international recognition. Notably, it retained its position in the S&P Dow Jones Sustainability Index for 2024, the leading sustainability stock index.
