Saipem strengthens Angola’s energy value chain with the New Gas Consortium project (NGC) Quiluma & Maboqueiro

The gas treatment onshore plant of the New Gas Consortium (NGC) Quiluma & Maboqueiro, built by Saipem on behalf of Azule Energy under an EPC contract awarded in October 2022, was inaugurated in recent days. Saipem thus achieves an important milestone within a strategic project for the development of Angola’s first non‑associated gas, contributing to the enhancement of the country’s energy resources.

The ceremony was attended by the President of the Republic João Lourenço and leading national institutions.

The contract awarded to Saipem in October 2022 included, in addition to the construction of the onshore gas treatment plant in Soyo, the development of one offshore platform. The assignment is part of a package of two projects, one offshore and one onshore, which have generated over 20 million worksite hours without accidents, confirming the high safety standards adopted by Saipem.

The NGC project represents the first non-associated gas development in Angola and marks a strategic milestone for the country’s energy security. The plant will be connected to the Angola LNG system, helping to enhance national resources and strengthen the energy value chain.

With this project milestone, Saipem confirms its ability to execute complex projects in international contexts, leveraging engineering and operational expertise built over decades of activity.

Saipem has been present in Angola for about 45 years, with offices and operational bases in Luanda, Ambriz, Soyo and Malongo. Over the years, the company has carried out numerous offshore and onshore projects, deep‑water drilling activities and Operation & Maintenance services. The Petromar yard in Ambriz, owned and operated by Saipem and covering approximately 35 hectares, is one of the most important industrial facilities in Angola: it has contributed to major Oil & Gas projects and plays a significant role in training the local community and supporting the area’s economic development. Today, more than 70% of Saipem’s workforce in the country is Angolan, confirming the company’s strong roots and commitment to sustainable growth in the territories where it operates.
