SUSTAINABILITY OBJECTIVES
Saipem has developed specific objectives and the relative implementation programmes for each of the 10 strategic ESG areas in the Sustainability Plan.
The main Saipem sustainability goals, with the relative targets and in line with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), are summarised in the table, based on three guiding principles: Climate change prevention, Human capital centrality, Sustainable value creation.
Climate change prevention
- Objective: GHG emissions avoided due to energy management initiatives. Target: 38 kt of CO2 eq for 2023 and 138 kt of CO2 eq for the period 2023-2025.
- Objective: GHG emissions compensated thanks to Saipem’s offsetting strategy. Target: 250 kt of CO2 eq for the period 2023-2025.
- Objective: Assess introduction of an internal carbon price shadow in investment decision-making processes. Target: 2023.
- Objective: Carbon Neutrality for Scope 2. Target: activate the purchase of 100% renewable energy, preferably certified, in all offices, where applicable (including I-REC certificates) and offsetting the remaining share of emissions by 2025.
- Objective: Systematise the mapping of operating sites in areas sensitive to biodiversity. Target: 2023.
- Objective: Map the operating sites of the main suppliers in biodiversity sensitive areas. Target: 2025.
- Objective: Continue the spill mapping and risk analysis. Target: 2 new Oil Spill Mappings and Risk Assessments in the ABSER Business Line by 2023.
- Objective: Continue efforts to reduce waste and increase the types of recyclable waste sent for recycling. Target: 2026.
Human capital Centrality

Objective: Launch the “Fondo Nuove Competenze” training project directed at Saipem SpA employees. Target: 2023
- Objective: Define a set of KPIs on Diversity & Inclusion to ensure constant monitoring of the issue. Target: 2023.
- Objective: Prepare a feasibility study for a “Global Employment Guideline”. Target: 2023.
- Objective: Increase the number of women with STEM backgrounds employed by Saipem SpA. Target: 2025.
- Objective: Obtain Gender Parity certification in line with Italian Reference Practice No. 215:2022. Target: 2023.
- Objective: Maintain ISO 30415 - Human Resource Management Diversity and Inclusion attestation. Target: 2023.
- Objective: Adopt a Gender Equality criterion in the recruitment process for structural positions. Target: 2026.
- Objective: Maintain TRIFR and HLFR values not exceeding the average of the last 5 years for each year until 2026. Target: For 2023, the average of the last 5 years’ TRIFR is 0.43 and HLFR is 0.98.
- Objective: Maintain TRIFR and HLFR values for subcontractors not exceeding the average of the last 5 years for each year until 2026. Target: For 2023, the average of the last 5 years is 0.32 for TRIFR and 0.57 for HLFR.
- Objective: Implement innovative actions to further strengthen the safety performance: such as the Fire Prevention Campaign. Target: 2023.
- Objective: Implementation of the Digital Permit to Work. Target: on board 30% of the Saipem fleet by 2025.
- Objective: Launch initiatives for employee health on the following topics: mental health, cardiovascular risk prevention and healthy eating. Target: 2023-2026.
- Objective: Extend application of telemedicine services. Target: 2023-2026.
- Objective: Set up smart-clinics for Fano and Arbatax sites. Target: 2023-2026.
Sustainable value creation
- Objective: Extend the number of suppliers registered on Open-es platform and strengthen information and data available on the platform. Target: 2023-2026.
- Objective: Extend the number of suppliers registered on the platform in order to measure their GHG emissions and strengthen information and data available on the platform. Target: 2023-2026.
- Objective: Increase awareness on human and labour rights issues with Saipem’s main contractors. Target: 2023.
- Objective: Conduct (desktop) audits on Saipem suppliers on human and labour rights. Target: 2023.
- Objective: Strengthen skills on sustainability in the Supply Chain function through specific training. Target: 2024.
- Objective: Carry out new market surveys to identify possible environmental requirements applicable to procurement processes. Target: 2023-2026.
- Objective: Strengthen the supplier qualification process on ESG issues as part of the new Company’s vendor qualification system. Target: 2024
- Objective: Develop a method for effective identification of initiatives for local communities. Target: 2023.
- Objective: Implement a biodiversity protection initiative (“Sea Bin initiative” pilot project). Target: 2023.

Objective: Maintain the “detection and response” process in accordance with ISO/IEC 27001 with the confirmation of certification. Target: 2023.

Objective: Continue Anti-Corruption and 231 Compliance training for at-risk personnel. Target: covering 100% of the countries included in the training plan by 2023.
