Saipem recently built the first railway in the United Arab Emirates, a 364 km-long infrastructure to connect the Shah and Habshan gas installations in the Abu Dhabi desert with the port of Ruwais.

This project featured almost 90 million m3 of earth moved under particularly challenging high temperatures. It also dealt with a request for an innovative solution to contain the sand on the railway platform and the high impact on the over 40 stakeholders involved.

This railway currently uses two trains, each with 110 freight cars, to transport over 22,000 tons of sulphur every day.
