This section of the website lists the certification held by the Management Systems implemented on Saipem’s E&C and drilling vessels and its Floating Production Storage and Offloading units (FPSO).
Saipem’s E&C vessels hold the following certification:
- ISM Certification [“The International Management Code for the Safe Operation of Ships and for Pollution Prevention” adopted by the International Maritime Organization on 1 July 2002, applicable to “ships, regardless of the date of construction”, including “other cargo ships and mobile offshore drilling units of 500 gross tonnage and upwards” (ISM Code, Reg. 2.1)]
- ISPS Certification [“The International Ship and Port Facility Security Code” adopted by the International Maritime Organization “to enhance the security of ships and port facilities” on 1 July 2004, applicable to to “the following tyes of ships engaged on international voyages”: “cargo ships (...) of 500 gross tonnage and upwards; and mobile offshore drilling units; and port facilities serving such ships engaged on international voyages” (ISPS Code, Part A, Section 3.1)]
- MLC 2006 Certification [“The Maritime Labour Convention” adopted by the International Labour Organization on 20 August 2013, and establishing “minimum working and living standards for all seafarers working on ships flying the flags of ratifying countries”. The convention is applicable to “all seafarers”; “to all ships, whether publicly or privately owned, ordinariliy engaged in commercial activities”. “ship means a ship other than one which navigates exclusively in inland waters or waters within, or closely adjacent to, sheltered waters or areas where port regulations apply” (MLC 2006 Art.II.2; II.4; II.1).
Saipem’s drilling vessels and Floating Production Storage and Offloading units (FPSO) hold the following certification:

MLC 2006 Certification is not applicable to drilling vessels or FPSO units because the Bahamas Maritime Authority does not define vessels whose primary objective is not navigation but the carrying out of oil & gas activities as “ships” within the meaning assigned by the MLC.
Saipem’s vessels also hold all technical certification required under international regulations for operations in all relevant sectors of activity, as well as for all on board installations/equipment etc. This type of certification is not listed here due to its large number, as well as to protect sensitive information that could benefit competitors.
