The company’s CO2 capture project located in Saint-Félicien in Canada has been awarded during COP28 as Energy Transition Changemaker
Saipem received during COP28 the Energy Transition Changemakers (ETC) recognition, the initiative to foster collaboration and share knowledge amongst the private sector in implementing innovative and scalable decarbonization projects that can help accelerate the energy transition.
Saipem was selected by an international committee of experts from among more than 100 entries, as Energy Transition Changemaker in the Heavy Emitting Sectors industrial category for its CO2 capture project located at the Resolute Forest Products paper mill in Saint-Félicien, Canada. Saipem's project is based on its proprietary, innovative and sustainable “CO2 Solutions by Saipem” technology which involves the new enzymatic CO2 capture solution BluenzymeTM. Furthermore, the Saint-Félicien plant is connected to a greenhouse that by April 2024 will utilize the captured CO2 for enhancing agricultural yields, demonstrating a circular approach.
BluenzymeTM is the innovative plug-and-play solution which involves the use of enzymes, thus reducing the operational complexity. The first industrialized product is BluenzymeTM 200, with a nominal capture capacity of 200 tonnes of CO2 per day.
The Energy Transition Changemakers initiative is part of the COP28 Presidency's Action Agenda, based on four key pillars, which includes: fast-tracking a just and orderly energy transition; fixing climate finance; focusing on people, lives, and livelihoods; underpinning everything with full inclusivity. The initiative considered four areas: Renewables & Clean Power, Energy Efficiency Low-carbon Hydrogen and Heavy Emitting Sectors.
