We continue to invest in the offshore renewable energy market, focusing on both bottom-fixed and floating wind solutions, such as our STAR1 semi-submersible technology and XolarSurf, a technology for a Floating Solar Park for severe wave conditions. We are pursuing further offshore opportunities connected to the potential of offshore data centres, aiming to optimise the tradeoff between digital transformation and the energy transition while taking care to preserve the water resources that are so important for data centre cooling.

Saipem’s extensive engineering expertise underpins innovative solutions across Carbon Capture, Utilisation & Storage (CCUS), CO₂ transportation, hydrogen production and the circular economy. To date, Saipem has designed and built over 70 CO₂ removal plants using a wide range of technologies. These include Bluenzyme™, a proprietary modular CO₂ capture system that combines an enzyme‑based catalyst with a non‑toxic solvent and can leverage low‑grade waste heat from industrial processes, treating up to 200 tonnes of CO₂ per day. As part of its strategy to expand its carbon capture portfolio, Saipem has entered into a non‑exclusive cooperation agreement with Capsol Technologies ASA for the joint development of projects in the Hot Potassium Carbonate (HPC) segment. The collaboration combines Capsol’s efficient and cost‑competitive CO₂ capture technology with Saipem’s execution capabilities to deliver fully integrated solutions for large industrial emitters, particularly in hard‑to‑abate sectors. The partnership builds on experience gained from the BECCS project for Stockholm Exergi, currently under construction, for which Saipem is the EPC contractor and which uses Capsol’s technology.  Saipem also continues its participation in the EU‑funded ACCSESS project under the Horizon 2020 programme, supporting the demonstration of CO₂ capture in energy‑intensive industries.

To make cleaner fuels and chemical components without releasing as much carbon dioxide into the atmosphere, we work to produce blue and green hydrogen. As part of a Major Project of Common European Interest (IPCEI) to develop hydrogen infrastructure in Europe, we are involved in Puglia Hydrogen Valley, a project to construct two green hydrogen production plants in the southern Italian region, with an overall capacity of 160 MW, powered by renewable electricity. Once operational, the plants will produce up to 250 million normal cubic metres of green hydrogen per year. Another example of how we are supporting hydrogen applications is the development of the IVHY™ 100 package, a 100 MW scalable and modular industrialised solution based on alkaline technology provided by our partners at Nel, a major electrolysis technology provider, to facilitate easier installation and commissioning for large-scale hydrogen production.

Our interest in nuclear energy is part of our technological development programme aimed at achieving net zero by 2050. Nuclear energy can efficiently and sustainably support growing energy needs and ensure the diversification and security of energy supply. We collaborate with newcleo for the offshore application of “Small Modular Lead-cooled Fast Reactor” (SM-LFR) technology to provide zero-emission electricity and process heat, exploring the development of floating nuclear prototypes that connect to the grid on land or to other users.
