We are committed to leaving a positive impact on local communities by engaging stakeholders to build strong relationships with the people who live and work where we operate, focusing on our long-term presence and addressing key operational contexts and client needs. To ensure the socio-economic conditions that uphold human rights and protect the environment, we create jobs, boost demand for local goods, improve infrastructure, contribute to education, and enhance skills in these areas. We designed our internal methodologies to measure our local value creation. Saipem Externalities Local Content Evaluation Model (SELCE) evaluates the social and economic value we generate locally and worldwide, and the REVALUE Model assesses our global social and environmental impacts.
None of these initiatives would have been possible without the dedication of our project team, colleagues, partners, and the invaluable involvement of local communities. We are not only proud to be part of these projects but also of how we are delivering them.

Every year, Saipem sets out its Local Community Initiative (LCI) Plan to turn strategic sustainability goals into tangible actions at the local level—focusing on real needs and long-term value for communities. Here’s an overview of our global operations and how the initiatives we implement contribute to sustainable development.
Making strides for local communities
Helping communities in West Africa
In connection with our Greater Tortue Ahmeyim floating LNG project between the maritime boarders of Mauritania and Senegal, we have helped with initiatives to support the local communities in the two countries, including, for example, the Petite Maison Rose (Little Pink House Project), a home that provides a protective haven for 200 vulnerable children a year, offering essential goods and educational, psychological, and healthcare support, the STEM Awareness Programme, which introduced 800 girls to opportunities in the oil and gas sector and STEM fields, and the Saipem Professional Training Camp, aimed at enhancing the employability of 118 young unemployed graduates and professionals by developing skills in specific oil and gas-related professions.
Hogsmill River Water Quality Monitoring Project
In Kingston upon Thames, near London, home to Saipem Ltd headquarters, we helped the local community with the conservation of the ecosystem of the local river. As part of the Hogsmill River Water Quality Monitoring Project, we invited our colleagues to become “citizen scientists” by collecting water samples from key locations along the Hogsmill river, measuring vital parameters such as pH and nitrates, data which is uploaded to an open-source platform and shared with the UK Environment Agency.
Calumbo Health Centre
This initiative aims to enhance healthcare services at the Calumbo Health Centre, located in the northeastern Icolo e Bengo province of Angola, by implementing a comprehensive training programme for 40 nurses, particularly for Integrated Care for Childhood Illnesses and Prenatal and Birth Care. It seeks to improve the quality and effectiveness of healthcare, particularly for children and pregnant women.
The Archimedes Project
This 2-year programme supports 50 talented children from public schools in Complexo da Maré, one of the poorest communities in Rio de Janeiro, nurturing their intellectual potential in special classes and hands-on laboratory research with mentors from the nearby university. The aim is to improve their socio-economic prospects by giving them educational opportunities they otherwise wouldn’t have access to.
Saipem Externalities Local Content Evaluation Model (SELCE)
Our SELCE Model (Saipem Externalities Local Content Evaluation) measures the social and economic value generated in the local economies by our business activities. The SELCE Model quantifies, in monetary value, the benefits that best correspond to our local value creation strategy in terms of Economic, Employment and Human Capital Development impacts.

Real Value Model (REVALUE)
Our REVALUE (REAL VALUE) model measures the social and environmental impacts of our company activities in monetary terms. The aim of this model is to illustrate how Saipem generates value for its stakeholders through sustainable business practices. This involves considering both the positive and negative impacts of our company operations, monetising them to determine the magnitude of impacts perceived by society as costs and benefits.
