To ensure the socio-economic conditions that uphold human rights and protect the environment, we create jobs, boost demand for local goods, improve infrastructure, contribute to education, and enhance skills in these areas. We designed our internal methodologies to measure our local value creation. Saipem Externalities Local Content Evaluation Model (SELCE) evaluates the social and economic value we generate locally and worldwide, and the REVALUE Model assesses our global social and environmental impacts.

Every year, Saipem sets out its Local Community Initiative (LCI) Plan to turn strategic sustainability goals into tangible actions at the local level—focusing on real needs and long-term value for communities. Here’s an overview of our global operations and how the initiatives we implement contribute to sustainable development.
Four areas for action beyond our value chain
We engage with local stakeholders in income-generating activities, support local economies, improve educational opportunities, and help create community facilities.
We promote cultural change by involving communities in preserving biodiversity and ecosystems, tackling plastic pollution, encouraging recycling and clean-up campaigns, and providing equipment for waste reduction.
Petromar is proud to support this initiative, which represents a positive change in the way waste is managed in Ambriz, and continues liaising with local Administration to have it all settled, including relevant license, for operations. The new center enables waste segregation and preparation for recycling, helping move the municipality toward more sustainable and responsible waste management practices
We renovate hospitals and health centres, provide medical equipment, and organise vaccination and blood donation campaigns, screenings and training for medical staff.
In Mozambique, congenital heart diseases represent one of the leading causes of childhood morbidity and are often diagnosed too late due to the lack of specialized healthcare services. Through its commitment to local communities, Saipem supports cardiac screening programmes that provide children with access to early diagnosis and appropriate care, offering a vital opportunity to reach lifesaving services that would otherwise be unavailable.
We promote education, skills development, and access to quality professional training, with a focus on STEM skills, including among young girls to foster diversity, equality, and inclusion, as well as initiatives to spread a global safety culture.

Global Clean-up Campaigns
In 2025, Saipem expanded its commitment to clean-up campaigns in 9 countries across Asia, the Middle East, Africa, Europe, and Australia, mobilising nearly 600 volunteers and removing about 3 tonnes of waste and promote environmental awareness. In Italy, Saipem organised land and water clean-up initiatives in Fano and Milan in partnership with local organisations, involving more than 200 volunteers.
Internship programmes in Guyana
In Guyana, Saipem continued to encourage local talent development through its internship programme. The initiative supports local content requirements while offering practical training opportunities for young students in mechanical and metal works, civil construction, and electrical engineering. In 2025, eight students between 18-20 years old completed internships at the Saipem Construction Facility in Georgetown, gaining hands on experience led by technical teams.
Waste management in Angola
In Angola, we continue to strengthen local waste management systems through the multi-year Waste Management Programme in Ambriz. The project reached a major milestone in 2025 with the completion of the Segregation and Valorisation Centre, enabling the municipality to transition from unsorted landfilling to structured waste segregation and recycling, managing and valorising non-hazardous waste streams and recyclable materials. The initiative also trained two local cooperatives, empowering locals and advancing circular economy practices.
Participatory art project in Milan
We completed “Future Storylines - Trame di Futuro”, our public art and restoration project for a railway underpass at the Rogoredo station in Milan. The initiative combines urban regeneration, community engagement, and functional improvements, transforming a main access point into a welcoming and recognisable space with an 85-metre mural designed in collaboration with Orticanoodles and students from the Albe & Lica Steiner Institute. The project also included cleaning, repainting, new handrails, and anti-slip strips, further enhancing safety and accessibility for commuters and residents.
Women's empowerment in Indonesia
In Indonesia, the “Women’s Empowerment Centre” initiative in Karimun Regency continued to strengthen economic and social inclusion for women with workshops in digital marketing, batik creativity, sewing, embroidery, and small goods production, giving participants opportunities to enhance their income. In 2025, we held six sessions of three workshops for 50 women and organised Elderly School for 70 senior women for sport, social participation, and mental and spiritual support.
Cardiac screening in Mozambique
In Mozambique, Saipem supported a non-invasive paediatric cardiology screening programme in collaboration with the Instituto do Coração (ICOR) in Maputo. The initiative enabled almost 200 evaluations, identifying new congenital heart conditions and directing paediatric patients to appropriate treatment plans when necessary. Through this partnership, Saipem helped facilitate early diagnosis and timely treatment for vulnerable children in an area with limited specialist services.

Our SELCE Model (Saipem Externalities Local Content Evaluation) measures the social and economic value generated in the local economies by our business activities. The SELCE Model quantifies, in monetary value, the benefits that best correspond to our local value creation strategy in terms of Economic, Employment and Human Capital Development impacts.

Real Value Model (REVALUE)
Our REVALUE (REAL VALUE) model measures the social and environmental impacts of our company activities in monetary terms. The aim of this model is to illustrate how Saipem generates value for its stakeholders through sustainable business practices. This involves considering both the positive and negative impacts of our company operations, monetising them to determine the magnitude of impacts perceived by society as costs and benefits.
