Human rights in our value chain
We aim to develop a sustainable supply chain by actively engaging with our vendors, implementing processes and supporting our vendors to comply with the highest standards and business ethics principles, including protection of health and safety, combating bribery and corruption, and respecting human rights and environmental protection.
We require our vendors to comply with our principles as stated in our policies and Vendor Code of Conduct, throughout our business relationship, from qualification to contract execution.
Every aspect of workforce management needs to align with the highest standards of quality and compliance – that’s what I call ‘Empowering Excellence'.

Our initiatives
Vendor social assessment programme
We have implemented a Vendor Social Assessment Program aimed at engaging with our key vendors, raising awareness for human rights and workforce protection, monitoring their compliance with our principles and standards, and fostering collaboration and continuous improvement. The program is defined annually, in alignment with our operational projects, and supports business risks management.
Training buyers and vendors
We designed and implemented specific training programs for our supply chain function and for vendors aimed at providing awareness for human rights and knowledge of business ethics principles included in our policies. Launched in 2023, these training programs are structured to cover various topics, such as ILO core conventions and decent work principles, as well as Saipem’s procedures and expectations.
Angola
Since over 2,000 local individuals are employed mainly via manpower agencies, Petromar Lda has implemented procedures for agency relations, outlining the expectations and requirements. Regular audits and monthly meetings are implemented to ensure compliance and foster open communication with the manpower agencies.
Saudi Arabia
Saipem is collaborating in Saudi Arabia with local manpower agencies. To ensure they are operating in compliance with local laws and regulations, as well as our principles, we selected six manpower agencies for assessment. The social assessment was conducted using questionnaires. A social improvement report was provided regarding their ability to comply with contractual requirements and local legislation.
