Saipem at Gastech 2026 with new FLNG solutions to maximise the value of offshore gas resources
The company will present its two solutions, FLNGenius and ZR-FLNG, as well as further developments of its proprietary Liqueflex™ 2.0 technology
Saipem will present, at Gastech 2026, one of the leading international events dedicated to the gas and energy industry, its solutions for floating LNG (FLNG) plants, designed to maximise the value of offshore gas resources, from conventional fields to more complex or remote reservoirs that are difficult to develop through traditional approaches.
Leveraging its extensive experience in the delivery of floating production systems and LNG plants, Saipem now offers a portfolio of standardised FLNG products designed to reduce project complexity, accelerate execution, and improve predictability, safety, and operational efficiency.
The first solution, FLNGenius, developed for large conventional gas fields, can support an annual LNG production ranging from 3 to 4 million tonnes, depending on gas quality and site-specific conditions. Thanks to its modular plug-and-play architecture, standardised gas treatment system, and the flexibility to integrate the leading liquefaction technologies available on the market, FLNGenius can be deployed across a wide range of reservoirs, enabling plant configurations to be optimised according to field characteristics.
The second solution, ZR-FLNG, designed for associated gas fields and remote reservoirs that frequently remain undeveloped or underutilised, is intended to unlock resources that would be difficult to develop through conventional approaches. With an annual LNG production capacity ranging from 0.5 to 1.5 million tonnes, the solution is based on Liqueflex™ 2.0, an evolution of Saipem's LNG liquefaction technology, featuring a zero imported liquid refrigerant (ZR), the use of industry-proven equipment, and competitive performance in terms of safety, operational simplicity, and energy efficiency.
More specifically, Liqueflex™ 2.0 has also been developed with the contribution of proprietary technologies, patents and know-how in the field of cryogenic liquefaction that Saipem recently acquired from Gasconsult Ltd. This transaction enables Saipem to leverage one of the industry's broadest proprietary liquefaction technology platforms, encompassing solutions based on the use of nitrogen alone, natural gas alone or a combination of the two as a refrigerant, as well as specific solutions for the production of high-purity methane for aerospace applications.
With this FLNG portfolio and its proprietary technologies, Saipem offers its clients practical and competitive pathways to maximise the value of offshore gas resources that remain undeveloped today, helping transform complex assets into development opportunities.
