Emergency Management

By implementing regulations and procedures meeting the highest standards of excellence, Saipem is able to achieve a very high level of effectiveness in preventing, managing and controlling events that may lead to emergency situations or that may develop into crisis situations that could potentially have a serious impact on the company, its workers or the environment.

Saipem starts by identifying and evaluating potential scenarios - including health and safety hazards for workers, accidents during operations, natural disasters, and acts of terrorism or crime - and assessing their impact. It then drafts procedures and plans for handling emergencies and crisis situations and verifies the adequacy of the plans in place by scheduling and holding periodic drills.

All emergency plans are prepared in accordance with local and international legislation, as well as with Saipem guidelines.

Their aim is to:

  • establish all organizational actions needed to reduce adverse impacts for all emergency scenarios evaluated
  • provide effective and adequate behavioural guidelines for dealing with emergency situations
  • allow the relevant company functions to assess the situation and adopt the most appropriate measures for the protection of the company’s personnel and assets, as well as of local communities and the environment
  • ensure efficient and effective implementation of mitigation measures for emergency situations in accordance with relevant company standards and procedures.

Saipem has set up a crisis unit at all Group operating companies, as well as a Corporate Crisis Committee which ensures coordinated and integrated management of any operational or environmental crisis that may have a significant impact on the health and safety of workers or the environment.
